Rimer London - DKMNTL X PATTA 09
release date: 1 August 18
Rimer London’s EP, a Dekmantel debut, is a delicate mix of arpeggiated melodies, muted Italo funk with yacht-disco vibes, all wrapped up in an 80s sheen overcoating. The Dutch producer and DJ, who has also collaborated with Bas Bron (a.k.a. Fatima Yamaha) as Comtron in addition to being one of the faces behind the enigmatic disco project Le Le, returns under his original production alias with a set of chromatic disco tracks, progressive in texture and full of character.
Going full Moroder, Rimer London a.k.a. Rimer Veeman shows that he knows his way around a synthesiser, or two. Crafting an EP full of soulful, electronic pop that switches tempos, and plays with feeling, Veeman flaunts his disco prowess again and again. Having just released an LP as MICH, an all-star pop project featuring the likes of Sofie Winterson, Piet Parra and others, Veeman dons his synth-wizard hat once again with this seasoned selection of dancefloor cuts. 'Quantum Internet Alliance' kicks off the EP like a wondrous, ambient journey into new, unknown sci-fi territories. It’s followed by 'Ant Migration', a warm and eccentric, playful Boards of Canada-like track, full of VHS-treated colour. 'The Blob, imaginary trip to a desolate New York' welcomes the EP’s first kick, playing like a soft-rock, slow-disco ballad, perfect for the next Psychemagik sunrise compilation. The EP finishes with 'Do Easy', a tropical, upbeat Balearic sunset disco number, the rolls with 80s drum kicks, and floating synth harmonies.
